The UK Government has today named two leaders in dementia research to spearhead the ambitious national Mission to tackle dementia: Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, and Nadeem Sarwar, a senior leader at Eisai.

Reacting to this news, Dr Adrian Ivinson, UK DRI Chief Operating Officer, said:

“Dementia continues to be a huge scientific and societal challenge. The Dementia Mission provides an important focus for how we will collectively meet that challenge and the announcement of Hilary Evans and Nadeem Sarwar as co-Chairs, both impressive and proven leaders in the field, adds some real weight and momentum to that mission.

"The UK Dementia Research Institute looks forward to working with them and the Dementia Mission, and to further growing our close partnerships with Alzheimer’s Research UK and Eisai. I am confident that under their leadership we will make good progress.

“As a community we will make most progress if we take a coordinated and strategic approach to research funding across the entire research pipeline. The Dementia Mission will be vitally important in driving progress in the field and transforming the lives of those living with dementia. It is paramount that we underpin these translational endeavours with thriving discovery science. We look forward to seeing that ethos embedded into the Dementia Mission.”
