Siddharthan Chandran
Director & CEO, UK DRI
Prof Siddharthan Chandran, an internationally leading expert in neurodegenerative disease, joined the UK Dementia Research Institute as Director and CEO in October 2023. Siddharthan is a practising neurologist and scientist working at the forefront of the emerging discipline of Regenerative Neurology, renowned for his work in motor neuron disease (MND) and MS that combines laboratory and clinical research with a particular focus on human / patient stem cells for his discovery science research. Alongside his UK DRI research, Prof Chandran is Director of the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neuron Disease Research and the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic at the University of Edinburgh. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
He leads the Institute with support from the UK DRI's Board of Trustees, Scientific Directors and Operational Leadership Team.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the UK DRI whose ultimate aim is to transform the outlook for people at risk of or living with dementia and related neurodegenerative conditions. The UK DRI is the science discovery engine that underpins the entire UK dementia ecosystem. My vision is to grow the institute into a world-leading beacon for innovation, discovery and translation for dementia.
