Biography
Prof David Attwell started his academic career with a degree in physics in Oxford, but changed to physiology for his PhD with Julian Jack working on the excitability of neuronal and cardiac tissue. David then did a post-doc in Berkeley, studying retinal biophysics and information processing with Frank Werblin, before returning to the UK where he was given a lectureship in the physiology department at UCL. Since being at UCL Prof Attwell's research interests have spanned glutamate transporters, stroke, glial cells (astrocytes, microglia and oligodendrocytes), control of blood flow at the capillary level, and dementia.
