The UK DRI is equally committed to finding immediate solutions for those living with dementia today, through clinical research and beyond. This dual approach ensures we're making a difference both now and in the future.
Today, using digital and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, our Centre for Care Research & Technology is delivering dementia-friendly “healthy homes”: smart home systems that help people with dementia live independently. In addition to enabling people to continue to live safely in their own home, this will improve quality of life and potentially lead to major cost savings to the NHS and care services.
We are also speeding up future treatments through pioneering clinical trial delivery. For example, MND-SMART trial is an exciting and innovative trial testing new treatments for people living with motor neuron disease. It is designed to test several drugs at any one time and depending on emerging results can drop drugs that are not making any impact on the progression of disease. People can be assessed in their own homes by telehealth and have their drugs delivered by courier directly to their home, making taking part in the trial as easy as possible.
The UK DRI will ensure that we apply what is learnt in the clinic back into our laboratory work, connecting the dots across all the stages of our research, to accelerate discoveries that will lead to impact and improving lives.
