Biography
Dr. Valeria Jaramillo is a Wellcome Trust Early Career Award Fellow at the University of Surrey. She obtained her BSc in Biochemistry, MSc in Neuroscience, and PhD in the field of sleep research from ETH Zurich. She then went on to conduct a short postdoc in the Baby Sleep Lab at the University Hospital Zurich before she was awarded a Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoc Mobility Fellowship to join the research groups of Prof. Derk-Jan Dijk and Dr. Ines Violante at the University of Surrey. Her postdoctoral research focused on REM sleep brain oscillations and their modulation using closed-loop auditory stimulation. She then received a Wellcome Early Career Award and became an Emerging Leader within the UK DRI Care Research & Technology Centre. She will lead a research programme which aims at discovering the mechanisms by which REM sleep contributes to cognition using multimodal approaches and to evaluate interventions to improve REM sleep in ageing and dementia.
