The World-Wide FINGERS toolbox for dementia prevention - Prof Miia Kivipelto

A discussion on the first large long-term trial indicating that multi-domain intervention can prevent cognitive impairment in at-risk elderly people

Prof Miia Kivipelto

Miia Kivipelto is Professor of Clinical Geriatric Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet (KI), senior geriatrician and Director of Research and Development (Ageing theme) at Karolinska University Hospital, and Head of the Ageing Epidemiology Research (AGE) Unit at Imperial. Through epidemiological studies she has identified various lifestyle, vascular and genetic risk factors for dementia. Based on these observations she launched the Finnish Geriatic Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) study, the first large long-term trial indicating that multi-domain intervention can prevent cognitive impairment in at-risk elderly people from the general population. Miia leads the Worldwide FINGERS initiative, an interdisciplinary network to share experiences and data, and plan joint global initiatives on dementia prevention.
