The UK DRI is saddened to learn that Trevor Truman, a founding member of the UK DRI Centre for Care Research & Technology steering committee, has passed away. Trevor and his wife, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016, were instrumental in testing early prototypes of the smart home technology that has since been developed at the centre.
In recognition of his work, Trevor helped open the centre in 2022. He commented on how far the Centre had come since his early conversations with Centre Director Prof David Sharp, remarking on the “world class talent applied to a world problem”. Trevor also spoke movingly about his own experiences and the value he and his wife gained from remaining at home for longer with support from the technology.

Prof Sharp said:
"Trevor’s passing is a great loss. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the UK Dementia Research Institute and made significant contributions to the development of the Centre for Care Research & Technology. He championed the importance of linking technology development to peoples real world experience of dementia. It was always a pleasure to hear his friendly guidance. I will miss our conversations and the knowledge that Trevor was always on hand to guide our work."
