"I’m excited to support the translation of the UK DRI’s ground-breaking discoveries towards new interventions that will improve the lives of people living with dementia." Alexandra Phillips
UK DRI Translation Portfolio Manager

Roles and responsibilities: Alex is responsible for managing the portfolio of translational projects that will be funded by the new £30million strategic partnership between UK DRI and LifeArc. This includes working with UK DRI researchers to identify project opportunities that would benefit from translational funding, running funding calls, and acting as the interface between UK DRI researchers and LifeArc.

Alex joined the UK DRI as a Translation Portfolio Manager in March 2023, following three years working as a Programme Manager in the Translation Team at MRC Head Office. In that role, Alex led on the establishment of the Experimental Medicine Panel, and supported the biologics and vaccine projects funded by the Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme.

Alex holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Bath. She undertook a PhD in Neuroscience at the Institute of Neurology at UCL, investigating the impact of newly identified Alzheimer’s disease GWAS hits on microglial function. Alex then continued her research interest in the role of neuroinflammation in neurodegeneration as a postdoctoral researcher at the UK DRI at Imperial College London.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys pilates and collecting an unnecessary number of recipe books.
