Yesterday (15 March) the Government's Spring 2023 budget was announced in Parliament, with an emphasis on innovation to boost growth.

Of the budget, Prof Bart De Strooper, Director of the UK Dementia Research Institute, said:

“The Chancellor is right that R&D is one of the UK’s greatest strengths, and it was heartening that science was a central theme in today’s Budget. The UK has all the elements to be a world leader in life sciences, to boost economic growth, create jobs, and solve our biggest health challenges, including dementia.

“One ingredient missing today was that of international collaboration. The UK’s association to Horizon Europe remains unresolved, and the ongoing uncertainty continues to hamper scientific progress. We urge the Government to restore confidence by confirming the UK’s membership of EU programmes without delay.”
