UK DRI appoints Chief Scientific Officer

We are delighted to announce that Jo Latimer will join the UK DRI as Chief Scientific Officer, commencing mid-August 2024.

Jo is an accomplished scientific leader with over 17 years of experience at the Medical Research Council (MRC), where she has held responsibilities for scientific areas in neurodegeneration, neurophysiology and translational research as well as leading on industry liaison. She currently serves as MRC’s Head of Neurosciences and Mental Health, where she oversees the neurosciences and mental health research portfolio. Jo additionally holds a PhD in Neuroscience from King's College London and has several years post-doctoral research experience in academia and the biotech sector.

On her appointment to UK DRI, Jo said:

“I am delighted to be joining the UK DRI at such an interesting and pivotal time for the Institute and for neurodegeneration research. The UK DRI has a unique opportunity to help transform the lives of people at risk of, and those living with, dementia and neurodegenerative conditions and their families and carers. I look forward to working with colleagues to help achieve this ambition.”

UK DRI Director, Prof Siddharthan Chandran, said:

“I’d like to offer Jo a warm welcome as she joins us in this important role as Chief Scientific Officer. Many people in our sector will already be familiar with Jo's significant contributions as part of her current position at MRC. Her extensive expertise spans strategy development, forging partnerships, securing research funding, executing large-scale programmes, as well as adept leadership and stakeholder management. With a background that bridges both industry and academia, Jo's previous work in Parkinson's at King's College London adds invaluable depth to her skill set.”
